Week 1 Ampuversary!!!

Well, someone’s sense of humor and entitlement is returning!

It is a dog’s life, again

Samdog has decided that the place to be is in my chair.  I got up to encourage him to laydown on the bathmat at my feet.  He stepped in behind me and stepped up onto the chair. This was the second incident of chair stealing in one morning.

You are welcome Mr. Dog, sir!

7 days into our new adventure and Samdog has discovered that he can once again step up onto the furniture – where he belongs.   It helps that he is so tall, it doesn’t require jumping, just stepping up.

We actually discovered this early this morning in the first chair theft incident, when he stepped up onto my chair, with me still in it.  If this is going to become our new normal – we might have to rediscuss boundaries.  But today, to have my 80 lb retriever back as a lap dog, I didn’t mind so much.

Happy first week ampuversary, my big, red, shaggy loverboy.

Sam was a 10 yr old Golden. We found a mass on his right arm bone on August 17, 2012. Confirmed Sarcoma on August 22, amputation on August 23, post amp biopsy confirmed osteosarcoma. We found lung mets on November 27 and Spirit Sam earned his wings on December 2, 2012. As a retired SAR dog, we were always up for an adventure... We didn't know where we were headed, and we don't regret a single step along our path. My heart left us too soon, but left a legacy of love that we will always cherish.

  1. I love the “my big, red, shaggy loverboy”. So sweet. We feel so good about how this first week has turned out. It will keep getting better. love 2 u 3

  2. I remember when Dakota demonstrated one of his stock pain-in-the-butt behaviors after his surgery. I also wrote about it in his blog. It was pretty early, I think, and he reached out and tripped me with his remaining front leg. He used to do that all the time and I would use creative language toward him. The first time he did it after losing his leg, I thought it was the greatest thing in the world.

New normal pretty much defines your journey now. You’ll find your way, and if it means having the air squeezed out of you by a big dog in your lap, well, welcome to your new normal! Glad Sam is feeling well enough to be a pain!

  3. That is just the most awseome photo. I love the look on Sam’s face. He’s looking very pleased with himself!

  4. Love, love to hear this!

You can sit on our laps, in our chairs, wherever Samdog. I’m hoppy to hear your weekend is starting out right. Bravo!
