He’s out and it went well.

Thank Dog!

He is out.  Doc says it went really well, he is in ICU and on an IV drip and fentinyl (sp?) patch for the pain.    She took out the whole arm including the scapula and took the lymph node(s?) too.  She says the lymph node didn’t appear swollen – another red dog miracle.   Both the node and the bone are being sent to the lab for conclusive diagnosis.

Meanwhile, he is in good hands overnight in the ICU.  Dr. S. will take a look at him in the morning and let us know how he is doing.

Big sigh of relief.  He keeps surprising me…  I love that about him.

Thank you for all your kind words – I believe they kept me from going crazy today, I want to hug you all!

HUGS!

Sam was a 10 yr old Golden. We found a mass on his right arm bone on August 17, 2012. Confirmed Sarcoma on August 22, amputation on August 23, post amp biopsy confirmed osteosarcoma. We found lung mets on November 27 and Spirit Sam earned his wings on December 2, 2012. As a retired SAR dog, we were always up for an adventure... We didn't know where we were headed, and we don't regret a single step along our path. My heart left us too soon, but left a legacy of love that we will always cherish.

  1. Woo Hoo – I know how it feels to wait for that phone call. It seems to take forever. I am so happy that things went well. Sending all my best to you and your pooch!

  2. Hooray for successful surgery! Rest up tonight! The first few nights home can be hard on the sleep patterns! Even if he doesn’t need you all night, you will likely find yourself laying there listening for every little sound.

Hope you get to pick him up first thing tomorrow and that his recovery goes well!

  4. {{{{{{hugs}}}}} back at ya! This is terrific!

They took my whole arm and scapula too. It was better that way, and they got all the icky cancer. You’ll have a big scar, but hey, that fur will cover it in no time!

Rest up Sam, and you too folks. Sleep is what you all need most right now. Enjoy.
